Does your work address aspects of climate change, climate justice/environmental justice, and/or community action around these topics?

Are you a UCSC graduate student, post doc, or researcher addressing the above topics?

Are you excited to strengthen your science communication skills?

The Coastal Science and Policy Program, in collaboration with Peter Coha, Division of Graduate Studies, Division of Physical and Biological Sciences, Division of Social Sciences, and Arts Division are pleased to host an evening event to showcase the breadth and depth of the research and opportunities for action that the UC Santa Cruz community is leading, guiding, and informing.

We want to showcase your work during the Climate Conversations event, part of UC Santa Cruz’s 6th annual Climate Conference (6:30-9:00pm on April 11, 2019 at the Rio Theatre).

What are Climate Conversations? Unlike a poster session, Climate Conversations involve interactive opportunities for audience members of the Climate Conference to mingle among informal conversations focused on a variety of climate change and climate justice topics. The showcase is modeled after the California Council on Science and Technology Science Translators Showcase (https://ccst.us/calling-california-grad-students-and-postdocs-apply-for-ccsts-california-science-translators-showcase/).

Why should I participate? Your work will be featured during the UC Santa Cruz Climate Conference, annual attendance 550+ people from the university and broader community. You’ll receive cutting edge science communication training to strengthen your approach for communicating the relevance of your work to diverse audiences. You’ll walk away with improved skills for offering impartial advice to the public, meet other researchers in your field, proudly represent UC Santa Cruz to this well attended event, and have fun.

This application portal will close on Monday, February 25, 2019, at 11:59 p.m. PDT.

Note, your 60-second audition video is your most important submission — please read the instructions carefully.

Selected applicants MUST be able to participate in a meet and greet held on campus, a one-day training in March (week of March 18, specific date to be selected based on selected participant availability), and the full evening event on April 11, 2019 (6:30-9pm) at the Rio Theatre.

For all event questions, please contact csp@ucsc.edu with Subject: Climate Conversations.
