On June 13, we proudly celebrated the 5th cohort of Coastal Science and Policy (CSP) Masters Graduates—the Class of 2024! During the graduation ceremony, CSP Director Dr. Anne R. Kapuscinski showed the 1968 photo by Apollo 8 astronaut, William Anders, that he called ‘Earthrise’. “An Earthrise echoes how I think of you all as part of Earth’s immune response rising up to heal the world,” said Kapuscinski. “You are making a difference through your visions for positive change, your relationships and your work for coastal ecosystems, people and their intertwined destinies.”
We were also pleased to welcome Dr. Margaret Spring, Chief Conservation and Science Officer at the Monterey Bay Aquarium, as keynote speaker at our graduation ceremony. She noted in her remarks that these graduates are “bringing all [their] skills to the fore, engaging directly with people…to dig into problems that are real, break through age-old boundaries to create solutions that are both enduring and inspiring. This is what we need – to demonstrate change is possible.”
