Congratulations to Jennifer-Justine Kirsch, CSP class of 2025, for an award from the UCSC Institute of Marine Science’s Student Research and Education Awards! The funding will help her carry out her capstone project proposal, “Exploratory Study of Brackish-Water Seaweed Farming Success Factors.” Jennifer is a Schmidt Marine Innovation Fellow. In her current role as the Director of International Programs at Fish Welfare Initiative, Jennifer is working with fish farmers in India to transform their farming practices to increase fish welfare. Taking this work a step further, with her capstone project, Jennifer plans to explore whether there are alternative agricultural livelihoods for rural farmers.
