Black in Marine Science: 2024 Conference Highlights
By Sidney Opiyo Oballa
Two weeks ago [December 2-6] I joined the Black in Marine Science (BIMS) Conference in San Diego, and it was the most exciting few days in a while. From connecting with amazing people to exploring new ways to protect our oceans, here are my favorite moments:
Ocean Literacy
Learning how social media can spark action for ocean conservation
Inspiring Leadership
“We are here for each other; we are here for the ocean” – Dr. Dawn Wright’s words were so powerful.
Making science Relatable
Discussing how to share science in ways that connect with everyone.
Wellness Matters
Self-care is just as important as the work we do!
Behind-the-Scenes
Exploring the research vessel Sally Ride was a highlight!
Here’s to making waves for a better future!
