hacking 4 oceans course

Tackle complex problems critical to saving our oceans and coasts with an interdisciplinary team of students from across UC campuses. Hacking for Oceans is a team-based course focused on identifying solutions to key coastal and ocean problems using Lean Design and entrepreneurial techniques. Interested students across the UC system should fill out the interest form for spring quarter 2024. Students at the Monterey Institute of International Studies can also participate. The course is open to graduate and/or undergraduate students from any school, department, or program. Check out some of the challenges this year’s course will address here.

Hacking 4 Oceans provides students the opportunity to learn how to work with city government, nonprofits, and other organizations to better address ocean challenges. This 10-week course forgoes traditional practices in which slow decision making impedes rapid innovation and provides a proven platform to develop testable solution prototypes in weeks, not months or years. Governments, nonprofits, and other organizations may provide follow-on funding to student teams for further refinement and development of these solutions. Interested students should check out the course website and fill out an interest form.
