Patrick Cage, one of the Coastal Science and Policy Program’s incoming students, will participate in the Sustainable Ocean Alliance (SOA) eight-day ‘Accelerator at Sea’ program. Patrick is interested in developing solutions that can scale up sustainable seaweed farms that embrace production systems that combine environmental markets, ocean tech, and ecological remediation. In doing so, this ocean solution will benefit oceans and the climate by reducing global greenhouse gas emissions, creating local refuges against ocean acidification, and removing polluting nutrient loads. In the ‘Accelerator at Sea’ program, Patrick will not only explore coastal Alaska aboard the National Geographic Quest, but also work on advancing his capstone idea from concept to a scalable ocean solution.
